Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) is perhaps one of the last and only principled elected officials in America. Whether you agree with him or not, he is consistent in what he believes. We may not agree with him on every single issue, but with regard to the federal budget he is by far one of the most ambitious leaders in the country. He and Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) are working as freshman Tea Party legislators to halt the trend of out of control government spending. These Senators have the courage, the intellect, and the passion to get our country back on track. Paul and Lee recently proposed a very ambitious 5 year balanced budget plan that could very well save our country from oncoming financial crisis. This plan would cut $4 trillion dollars from the federal budget over 5 years and eliminate the recently passed socialized medicine legislation. Prior to introducing this plan, Paul proposed a bill to cut $500 billion from the federal budget this budget cycle. In introducing this ambitious plan, Paul said:
“While official Washington is sitting on their hands and ignoring the ever-expanding deficit, I am offering a real plan to rein in spending and address the looming debt crisis, the only way we can balance the budget is if we have real leadership, and the President has abdicated his leadership on this issue. It’s time to take bold action to bring our country back from the brink, and I am proud to start the conversation on how we go about that.”
Here is footage from a recent press conference he held, talking about his plan:
