Excessive government spending needs a spotlight

Adam Andrzejewski posted over on http://biggovernment.com about an Illinois city manager that gets a country club membership, a gym memberships and a grand $350k a compensation package. Yikes!

This made me wonder how much do our great public servants make over at the Cecil County Administration building. Now, I’m pretty sure that our commissioners are making peanuts, but there are a lot of other upper management roles in the county — I want to know how much they are making!

So, over the next few weeks, I will be reaching out to the Cecil County administration and request disclosure of compensation packages for the top upper management positions, including School Board, Cecil College, Department of Economic Development, and Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Department of Public Works.

I’m the first one to defend a good worker’s well deserved salary, but I also think it’s every citizen’s responsibility to ensure that our hard earned tax revenue is not being miss-spent on club memberships or any other sort of waste. If any of our faithful public servants want to enjoy a club membership, that’s fine by me — budget for it and pay for it out of your take home salary.

I would encourage our readers to call or email the commissioners and ask them to support more transparency by making this information readily available.

Help us take this transparency crusade statewide. As we explore this, it looks like most villages have similar compensation plans for their managers.

Excessive government spending needs a spotlight. This is a national disgrace.

Bigger government is cannibalizing the private sector and it is cannibalizing the taxpayers. More taxes, more spending, more borrowing, and more regulation is killing private sector jobs. The arrogance and aristocracy of government must be met by more accountability, more transparency and a more vigorous push for limited government.

It’s time to drive real reform. Thank you for standing strong with courage and conviction. Thank you for standing with us. Together, we will bring a new day to Illinois.

Stay tuned for updates as we work to encourage more transparency at the county level.
